Statement on the Atlanta Shooting

BLM / March 17, 2021 by Katie Mullan

An attack on anyone is an attack on the very fiber that weaves us all together. Our thoughts are with those who lost their lives, lost loved ones, and lost their sense of safety following the shootings across Atlanta last night, which brought immense fear and pain for all of us, but especially Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander women. We see you and we mourn with you.

Words contain multitudes and can wield a lot of power. This loss feels heavier as AAPI members of our communities have faced increased violence and hate crimes as a result of racist rhetoric during the pandemic. We must all commit to the anti-racist work that will dismantle longstanding oppression, remove barriers from the most basic needs, and protect every life.
