Using Public Health Data and Research to Identify and Protect High Risk Illinois Youth

The first speaker will present Youth Risk Behavioral Survey (YRBS) data for Illinois high school students who identify as lesbian, gay, or bisexual and the increased risk these students experience for mental health issues and drug abuse. The second speaker will present data from both the YRBS and other sources showing increasing rates of suicide among Illinois youth. The third speaker will present recent qualitative research on how exposure to suicide in schools can harm adolescentsí mental health and resilience. This presentation will offer insights on how to help adolescents coping with exposure to suicide and other sources of stress.
