The Well-Woman Project: Listening to Women’s Voices to Improve the Ability to Access Well-Woman Care
Arden Handler, DrPHProfessor, University of Illinois School of Public Health
The Well-Woman Project, a partnership between CityMatCH and the University of Illinois-School of Public Health used qualitative methods to learn about women’s perceptions of the Well-Woman Visit, as well as barriers that affect their ability to be healthy and seek well-woman care. In 2016, in conjunction with 8 city health departments, Listening Sessions (17) were held (n= 156 women) and stories were collected from 102 women across the nation with respect to their ability to be healthy and seek preventive/well-woman care. Ten themes emerged; based on these themes, recommendations aimed at systems and policy changes were developed.
