This webinar, presented by Emily Werth, Staff Attorney at the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois, gives an overview of Illinois laws affecting minors’ access to confidential health care services, including contraception, STI treatment, mental health counseling, and abortion. It also includes a discussion of the Parental Notice of Abortion Act, and the judicial bypass procedure available to pregnant minors who cannot or do not wish to notify an adult family member of their intent to seek an abortion. The webinar ends with a Q&A session.
2017 Illinois School Health Center Orientation

The goal of this webinar is to provide basic information on SHCs in Illinois, as well as outline who SHC staff can contact to find additional resources and information related to SHCs.This introductory webinar includes information such as: the scope of SHCs in Illinois, how SHCs are funded in the State, SHC standard requirements, and the various entities in Illinois that can provide resources, information, and technical assistance to SHC staff. Representatives from the Illinois School-Based Health Alliance and Illinois Department of Public Health co-presented the webinar.
SBHA National Convention Debrief

In June, the National School-Based Health Care Convention hosted over 950 school health center (SHC) attendees in Long Beach, CA to create the largest gathering of SHC professionals ever. The convention included more than 75 workshops on school-based clinical care, population health approaches, and best business practices, and nearly 40 exhibitors that shared unique services, products, and care models for SHC professionals. During this informal call-in, several folks from Illinois that attended the National Convention shared: lessons learned, resources, most valued aspects of the convention, and ideas for what we can do better as a state to improve SHCs in Illinois. There was also time for discussion among attendees.
The Science of Adversity, Resilience, & Hope

In the fall of 2015, the Illinois School-Based Health Alliance (ISBHA) facilitated a presentation on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) at our Fall Regional Meetings. This webinar serves as Part 2 to that presentation and covers a brief review of the Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) study, the science underlying the connection between adverse experiences and health, and concepts and concrete action steps on the journey from becoming trauma aware to trauma-informed. Health & Educational Rights of Homeless and Unaccompanied Youth (for SHCs)

This webinar covers a range of common legal issues faced by homeless and unaccompanied youth that can be easily spotted by SHC staff. Topics included access to public benefits and identification documents, school enrollment, consent to health care, Medicaid managed care, and other available referral resources. This webinar was tailored to Chicago SHCs as it also provided an overview of Streetlight Chicago, a mobile application that features up-to-date information on resources available to homeless and unaccompanied youth in the Chicago area. A webinar tailored to downstate regions will follow!
SHCS & Medicaid Managed Care Series
The ISBHA is hosting a webinar series covering various topics related to Medicaid Managed Care and School Health Centers (SHCs). This technical assistance opportunity is designed to strengthen relationships and care coordination between SHCs and Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) and ensure that SHCs are integrated into the State’s Medicaid managed care landscapes.
