Call Congress NOW at (202) 224 - 3121 and demand they stop using children's health care as a bargaining chip!
After over one hundred days without a budget and continued funding for vital health programs, Congress has failed to do either, and instead is using CHIP as a bargaining tool pitting children's health against DREAMers. Last night, the House passed a short term extension that left many essential programs without any long term solution. Today we wait for the Senate to act to avert a federal government shutdown.
The attempts to find a budget solution have so far fallen short, as they have left out funding for crucial programs that cover the health and wellbeing of 800,000 DREAMers, Community Health Centers and other critical health services.
We need Congress to put forth a clean budget that provides:
- a permanent solution for DACA recipients, brought to this country as children in hope of a better, healthier life.
- a funding extension for CHIP, which provides health care for 9 million children across the country, with hundreds of thousands of those children residing right here in Illinois.
- investment in Community Health Centers that offer access to doctors and health services for 27 million people, allowing them to get and stay healthy.
In addition, programs like home visiting through MIECHV help new families achieve a strong and healthy start so they can lead overall healthier lives. Therefore, we cannot neglect parts of funding for such interconnected services.
Call Congress now at (202) 224-3121. Tell your representative to pass long term funding for CHIP, Community Health Centers and other health programs, and find a solution that protects Dreamers.
